I was in session till pretty late so I thought “Art for Art Sake” was fairly over when Craig called. But still, as soon as the sessions were alll over I called him back and we went roaming the neighborhood’s many art galleries and antique shops for the best party…well we would hhave roamed had we not stepped into this new amazing resort and spa called Pantheon Village ( http://www.pantheonvillage.net ) which is less than a block from My house.
Craig lives 24/7 in fetish clothes, but the old money New Orleans couple we met were really cool and sat with us in a pumpkin carriage on the property and had drinks and ate from their fine buffet which was served on silver trimmed china, and chatted about our neighborhood, their family having owned almost all the property in this neighborhood including the houses Craig and I live in, how this neighborhood was through the ages, what each building was, and other facets of all of our lives.
When we left it was past 10:30 so we searched for the remaining parties to be found on lower Magazine before heading the opposite direction Uptown in search for M-Pire’s party.
We stopped off at Poets Gallery, where Latifa Wright’s dolls always make me want to die that I don’t have a million dollars to buy everything she makes, and Sean Yselt had made this great fan with that I swore was a painting on a photo of Jean, but it was really Jessica. Sweet Todd was there (of course he was his “baby momma” owns the gallery). Todd’s company is always a much loved treat in My day. There was a stunning blonde there fresh in from San Francisco, Todd introduced us, but she was so pretty it was hard to recall what he said.
Off we left past all of our neighborhood and back up Magazine, lo and behold…not a soul was at M-Pire, the doors were locked, and you could still see the beer sign. Unlike last year I didn’t bother the few blocks past Napoleon Avenue to Twisted Gallery to see what was going on there. Last year it was Hazard County Girls playing and a good croud.
So, we walked the long trek back to our neighborhood only to have a car full of ladies yelling at us…first instinct is to tune them out…they were persistant…we finally listened and turns out they were a car of school teachers that wanted us to get in their car and go to a party only 2 blocks from our houses. They told us that we looked interesting and that the party was kind of dull, and just a bunch of Teachers of America so they wanted to bring us with them to have interesting conversation…what the hell.
A car of 3 women is non-threatening. We went, and it was truely as they said. The Jamaican school teacher was the only one who the people at the party actually knew because the other 2 were new to “Teachers of America”. Interesting conversation and jokes…we dragged out our departure. We were tired, but they still wanted to chat, till we both decided no more chatter and walked the last 2 blocks to our respective homes and crashed.
