I finished it.

I can’t believe I got all that work done.

I researched the subject wrote my article on the Delta 32 mutation. I can’t believe I got it done so fast. I also finished all the other work on line that I needed to catch up on.

Now I can focus on the last arrangements for the Fetish Ball, including tracking down some vinyl in the local fabric stores so I can have my costume made. I have a design in my head. I want my outfit to be one of a kind and I designed the perfect costume for such a show.

I have to get this done in the midst of Claudia’s visit, as well as I still have to finalize travel plans and budgeting.

For those that want to read the article as it sits before proof reading, here it is…
Mutation and Salvation
By Mistress Genevieve

Hooray for Darwin and the theory of evolution.

A few months back I saw a documentary on the discovery of a mutation of the leukocyte (white blood cell) that saved Europe from the black plague and is suspected to be the reason some people of European heritage have a resistance to HIV/AIDS.

To find out if there was any truth in the mutation of the C-C chemokine receptor 5, known variously as CCR5, CCCKR5 and CKR5 being the common denominator in the recovery and survival of the black plague, Dr. Stephen O’Brien had to find a situation in history that existed as a control group. Fortunately such a town did exist. In the secluded English town of Eyam the Black Plague infiltrated the small village’s way of life through a shipment of fabric from London, which had been infested with fleas. Out of fear, and in hopes that the town would contain and die out the vicious disease they quarantined themselves.

If not for the quarantine, lasting 3 years, scientist would not have been able to discover the miracle mutation and it’s direct hypothesized connection to the survival of the victims of the black plague. For 3 years no one came in or out of Eyam. Coins were left upon a rock in a field outside of town to pay for the food brought by a neighboring village. To prevent the spread the Eyam residence washed the coins in vinegar to cleanse off germs before leaving them for the neighboring towns men. They expected the town to die off, but no. Darwinism’s theory of evolution proved true. Out of natures fight for survival the white blood cells began to mutate. Some villagers contracted and recovered and scientist believed that such cases were people with only one Delta 32 mutation of their blood cells. In others, death seemed to be all around, and despite the death of all their family and friends they never contracted the plague. These cases were believed to have a double Delta 32 mutation.

In the 80’s and 90’s and on to our current year many people have died from HIV and AIDS, but at the same time, children have been born to parents with HIV and shown no sign of the disease. Many lovers of AIDS victims have watched their lovers pass from the disease and never contracted it themselves.

There is a supposed connection between these cases. It is believed that the Delta 32 mutation is at the core of these fortunate people who escape contracting this deadly disease despite the close proximity of their life, and the reasonable expectation that they would be the next to be stricken.

Explained in the documentary and other research I had read on-line the reason the mutation blocks the disease is that a non-mutated white blood cell has a receptive surface. This surface has 2 openings for the virus to attach and take over the cell and then reproduce to spread on to other healthy cells. In cells with the Delta 32 mutation there is only one port rather than two for the virus to attach itself. In such cases they believe that this accounts for a long period where the virus is undetectable, and symptoms aren’t present. In the case where the person has a double Delta 32 mutation there is no vulnerability in the cell’s surface, required for the virus to attach and multiply through out the host’s system.

Where is science going to go with this information? Is it fool proof that such fortunate people with the mutation are safe from this disease? And if so, what other diseases might they be safe from? How might all of us find out if we carry such a mutation? This had left so many questions in my mind. I had to find out more, and due to this obsessive curiosity I had to share such wonderful and curious information with you.

In the research I gathered to bring this information and food for thought to you, I also discovered a new discovery on the subject. It seems that those who have a single Delta-32 mutation amongst the AIDS population studied have a 30% rate of having Hepatitis C.

This only has opened up more questions in my mind…does Hepatitis C force mutate the white blood cell into having a single Delta 32 mutation? Did they have a Delta 32 mutation prior to the contraction of HIV and Hep C?

Usually I end my writing with answers, and the offering to answer more questions, but in this case I want to open your mind as that documentary opened mine months ago. I want to leave you curious and maybe more knowledge and curiosity of the laymen of the population may inspire more studies and provoke more questions that could bring out an epiphany. Maybe one day we could actually force mutate our cells and save us from the loss of many more friends and lovers.

But until then play safe, remember there still is no cure to HIV and AIDS.
